Kittens!
Here are our general thoughts, plans and policies on kittens.  Check our
'
AVAILABLE' page for details on current litters/retired adults.
KITTENS ARE HERE!!!  We've had a baby boom of little BumbleBe's!!!.  Please see
our
'Available' page if you are interested in a future kitten or want to have a peek at
our most current breeding plans (subject to change).  Kittens do 'book up', so please
let us know as soon as possible if you are interested in a kitten of a particular sex,
color, or for show.  These kittens are most likely to be seal, seal tortie, blue, blue
tortie, red, cream, or lilac.

Please email us at
bumblebebirmans@att.net if you would like to reserve a kitten.
Unfortunately, we have no way to predict what sex kittens will be, nor do we know if
we are likely to get showable kittens out of any particular litter.
All BumbleBe kittens come with a contract.
Our contract is simple and it's number one
purpose is protection of our kittens.  We will
discuss the contract in detail with you if you
are interested in purchasing a BumbleBe
kitten.  My pet kittens sell for $900.
Showable/breeder quality kittens will range
from $1,200 and up, depending on quality,
sex, color, pedigree and the intent for which
the kitten is purchased.  Pet kittens will be
altered prior to leaving our premises, if
timing permits, although I do not alter until
kittens weigh at least four (4) pounds, and all
kittens are vet checked at least twice prior
to leaving.
ABOVE:  Ark You're My Belle of Starghatts
(Belle), owned by Charlotte Shea.  Belle
and Causey were proud parents in 2006 of
Deryni and Dreamy.  Here's a very round
Belle at about 60 days gestation.

all sleepy eyed with Diedre'.

pounce off the couch at her
brothers and sister.
Birman kittens typically do pretty well in a multi-cat household.   In fact, most of the adjustment comes
from our older kitties who are periodically 'invaded' by these little furballs.   They also get to know
our dogs at this age, so they will be less likely to be intimidated by any canines at your house!    (This
does NOT mean that you should not supervise the first few meetings until your kitten and pooch are
well acquainted.  Some dogs, no matter how friendly may instinctively chase, maul or terrorize a kitten.
It does not mean they are bad dogs, they may just be following a 'prey' instinct, like chasing a rabbit.
Supervision is extremely important until you are sure that the kitten and any other critters in your
household are comfortable with one another!)
ABOVE:  All BumbleBe kittens get handled a lot.  Daily
handling from the time of birth helps insure that kittens
are well socialized and imprint easily on their people.
Here, Cissy gets a daily dose of kisses from Steve.
BELOW:  Here Cissy (at abut 3 pounds, shortly after her
litter was released from the 'kitten room') loves up to our
150# Newfie.  She was fearless, so we monitored carefully.
LEFT:  Hairy Connick shows his friend
'Jack' how much he loves him.  (And
how well they match!)
We try to attend every birth (once in a while, someone surprises me), and our queens are used to us
handling their babies frequently from day one.  We hold each little one for several minutes and
breathe on them to get them used to humans as nurturing creatures.  We feel this helps our babies be
ready to imprint easily on their people and makes for a more loving disposition.  We do not seperate
kittens from mom unless there is a health or temperament reason to do so, but allow mommy cats to
wean kittens in their own time.  At 14 weeks, we will seperate them if mom hasn't made that decision
by herself at this point, which is fairly rare.    We feel this allows for maximum socialization and
'teaching' by our moms, so kittens are better adjusted.

Our kittens remain in the 'kitten room' until after they've completed at least their second set of
immunizations.  After that time, they get to join the rest of the family and are socialized to other
cats, our dogs and small children via our nieces and nephews.

We will ship kittens (and have had excellent results in the past doing so), but cannot guarantee
shipping between approximately mid May and early October due to the intense heat in south Texas.
We will ONLY ship with carriers that are able to guarantee climate control for our kittens.  We
WILL NOT ship kittens to Asia.  We are approximately 2-3 hours from the major airports in Houston
(IAH), San Antonio (SAT), and Austin (AUS) and will meet you at the airport to deliver your kitten if
you are able to fly in to pick them up.  Of course, this is our preference, as it gives us a chance to
meet you, and your kitten is in your care from the minute he/she leaves us!
A NOTE ON IMMUNIZATIONS AND FEEDING
We routinely immunize our kittens (and give a yearly booster to adults) with a '4-way' vaccine for
Calici, Panleukopenia, Chlamydia, and Rhinotrachitis, as well as yearly Rabies.  I no longer routinely
give vaccines for Feline Leukemia (FeLV) and Feline Aids (FIV) because of the tremendous stress these
vaccines place on the immune system.  Each litter is tested prior to homing, and I randomly test during
the year to make sure our cattery remains FeLV and FIV free.   We strongly recommend that you
research and choose a vaccination program appropriate for you, but I consider the 4-way plus Rabies
to be mandatory.

Our cats get a blend of premium dry and wet food, supplemented by a raw 'treat' 4-6 times weekly.
We also recommend you research premium foods (especially in the wake of the recent problems with
contaminants) and consider that feeding a high quality food should be part of your plans for your new
baby.  I will be happy to speak with anyone individually about my personal recommendations for
feeding dry, wet, and raw foods.
